Kaum ein Event wird so mit Spannung erwartet wie eine Apple Keynote. Unter dem Motto „It’s only rock and roll, but we like it. “stellte Apple am 9. September 2009 die neuen iPods vor. Doch auch die bereits glücklichen Besitzer eines Apple-Produkts kamen nicht zu kurz, neben einer neuen iPhone-Software wurde das neue iTunes veröffentlicht, iTunes 9. Aber was ist anders an dem neuen iTunes?
Eine wesentliche Neuerung, die sich viele Nutzer wahrscheinlich schon lange gewünscht haben, ist die Privatfreigabe. Dadurch ist es möglich aus verschiedenen Mediatheken von bis zu fünf autorisierten Computern zu stöbern und zu importieren. Und auf den anderen Computern gekaufte Musik wird automatisch zum Musikarchiv hinzugefügt, so ist man nicht mehr nur an einen Rechner gebunden.
Eine weitere Neuerung ist iTunes LP, dabei werden ausgewählte Alben im iTunes Store mit zusätzlichem Bonusmaterial ergänzt. Während dem Anhören der Songs können animierte Songtexte oder Begleitinfos gelesen werden, auch werden die Alben mit Bildern sowie mit Videos, Kommentaren und Interviews der Interpreten bzw. Bands ausgestattet.
Zusätzlich wurde auch der iTunes Store neu designt, dieser ist nun übersichtlicher und auch optisch ansprechender gestaltet. Auch eine Schnellauswahl für die wichtigsten Menüpunkte und neue Interpretenseiten sind verfügbar.
Neu ist auch die neue Funktion Genius Mixes mit der Genius verbessert wurde, denn ab jetzt kann iTunes Genius-Mixe erstellen und spielt Titel aus der Mediathek ab, die stilistisch gut zusammenpassen.
Ein weiterer wichtiger Punkt ist, dass das Synchronisieren viel einfacher wurde, mit der neuen iPhone-Software und iTunes 9 können jetzt die iPhone Apps direkt in iTunes verwaltet werden. Zusätzlich hat iTunes die Fähigkeit Musik nach Künstlern und Genres sowie Fotos nach Ereignissen oder Gesichtern zu synchronisieren.
Eine weitere Verbesserung ist die sogenannte Wunschliste, auf der man Artikel die man im iTunes Store kaufen möchte speichern kann ,auf diese Weise ist es möglich in sozialen Netzwerken wie Facebook und Twitter seine Favoriten aus dem Store mit einem Klick zu empfehlen.
Die letzte Neuerung betrifft die Wiedergabe von im iTunes Store gekauften oder geliehenen Filmen, sie werden bei iTunes nicht einfach wiedergegeben, sondern es wird ein Menü gezeigt, das einer DVD ähnelt, es erlaubt eine Wiedergabe ab einem bestimmtem Kapitel oder das Ansehen von Bonusmaterial. So kann man mit Recht behaupten, dass Apple mit iTunes 9 einen großen Fortschritt gemacht hat.
